Wiid Design: Demilune Table.
Known for his custom designs that combine specialist manufacturing with handcrafting, award-winning designer Laurie Wiid has garnered much acclaim for his innovative use of cork in high-end product design, architecture and large-scale production manufacturing over the years.
Yet, for his latest design, he, quite literally, broke from the mould with a new ceramic design – the Demilune Table.
A novel addition to Wiid Design’s ceramic table collection, the table “adds a playful touch to any space,” says Laurie Wiid. “These half-round ceramic tables can be used as a console for displaying art or combined to create a circular four- or six-seater dining table. Whether you use it or display it, the goal is to have fun with design and make your space uniquely yours.”
“We have worked with Gerhard Swart and the late Anthony Harris of Ceramic Matters for more than a decade, and in that time, their integrity, perseverance and commitment to learning have always been a big inspiration to us. Born out of our shared appreciation for mid-century furniture and, in particular, the tables with the drop-down sides common in diners in the 50s and 60s, we decided to do something playful but with integrity and style.
“Our original ceramic tables were a collaborative initiative with Ceramic Matters and our studio, a friendship and certainly an experience. Now, since 2023, the legacy of this collaboration continues to live through Wiid Design as we explore new table designs, tile manufacturing and glaze applications (in-house) at our studio in Cape Town.”
The Demilune Table is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and can be styled in a variety of ways. For design inspiration, watch this reel.
