Sotran Dekorativ: The Beauty of Tree Root Furniture
We understand that furniture is more than just a collection of pieces; it is an expression of your individuality and a reflection of taste. The exotic Tree Root Furniture from Sotran Dekorativ offers rich honey tones and remarkable durability, winning the hearts of interior designers and homeowners locally and internationally.
It all started 300-500 years ago when the Dutch ran big shipping trading posts out of Indonesia. The ships were built mostly from Burmese teak, Tectona grandis, with large plantations having been planted there for this purpose. Burmese teak has natural oils that make it durable in water and highly resistant to mollusk and insect attacks.
This made Burmese teak very popular for furniture manufacture in the last 200 years, especially for outdoor use, since it turns an attractive grey color and can last many years under rain and sunshine. The longer the tree is left to grow, the thicker the trunk and thus the broader the planks used for tabletops, sideboards, etc.
However, the root systems of these massive trees need to be removed to make way for new saplings to be planted. We can thank a few aesthetically astute Japanese entrepreneurs who noticed the unique qualities of these unearthed root masses.
A whole new craft trade has since developed in the villages surrounding these plantations that specialize in shaping and exquisitely carving them into attractive coffee tables, consoles, and dining tables to add the warmth of traditional tropical aesthetics or the organic feel of more modern designs to homes across the globe.
A story of distinction
Each piece of Tree Root Furniture is hand-selected and tells a story of skilled craftsmanship and a pledge to preserve the beauty of our planet for generations to come. Sotran’s dedication to good customer service and quality products has earned them respect and loyalty from customers for more than 20 years.
