Roche Bobois Introduces The Latest Pulp Collection

The past year’s ups and downs did not dampen Roche Bobois’s drive to create: not that new products are essential per se, but they certainly represent the brand’s continuous quest to come up with fresh, convincing designs – an ambition that motivates the team every day.

With this season’s furniture collection, Roche Bobois has focused on developing a spirit that brings together two renowned designers: Eugeni Quitllet and Cédric Ragot. We believe that this body of pieces, created by these distinguished talents, reflects the strong creative momentum typical of the period.

Collection Pulp

This is the first collaboration between Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet and Roche Bobois. He has subsequently designed a line of tables, chairs and armchairs with a biomorphic aesthetic. These eschew straight lines, complemented with refined finishes.

Inspired by the living world, the collection therefore draws on the dissociation of elements (or, as Eugeni puts it, molecules) to showcase them in the style of various organs making up a body:
• Fleshy and malleable, each table leg appears to be alive, extending its tentacle to the centre of the table top, thereby creating a space between the two;
• The top is also designed as a large, horizontal cell that has subsequently been sliced open to show its inner make-up.

In terms of materials, Eugeni wanted to tell two versions of the same story. The first is glossy and lacquered. It is a comprehensive expression of the malleability of shapes in movement. In creamy white, Jaipur burgundy or chocolate, the choice of metaphor is ample! The top is made of Fenix®, which guarantees multifunctional use.

The second is made of ash wood. Solid wood for the legs, and with a flamed veneer for the top. It tells of the passage of time, which has polished and smoothed the edges.

An intricate look

The chairs also nod to cellular division. The seat and back subsequently seem to split and separate. The idea of movement is therefore central. The sleek, Scandinavian-style leg is furthermore detached from the seat. This echoes the design of the table.

The relaxing armchair has the same style, but a different design. The seat merges with the body, but the headrest plays into the quirky twinning concept.

Capsule

The Pulp collection was the ideal opportunity to reintroduce the Capsule sideboard, designed by Cédric Ragot in 2013. The sleek aesthetic, impeccably even and perfectly fluid, pairs beautifully with Eugeni Quitllet’s project. For this occasion, refined proportions set it delicately on a new base. Whether veneered or lacquered in striking colours, the Capsule sideboard is a natural continuation of the Pulp table.
