Roche Bobois: Bamboo Collection
In a novel collaboration celebrating design excellence and traditional Chinese craftsmanship and materials, French furniture brand Roche Bobois and Chinese designer Jiang Qiong Er have joined creative forces to create the Bamboo Mood Collection.
Striving to connect the past and future, Er “instils her projects with ample meaning and emotion, balanced by a playful spin,” – and the Bamboo Mood Collection is no different. With this collection, the designer wanted to introduce a metaphor around bamboo, a powerful symbol in Chinese culture.
“Bamboo has always fascinated me. Elegant, resilient, fluid, and peaceful, it counters strong with insolence and play. Bamboo bends but does not break. It whispers, trembles, filters the light, and plays with shadow. Timeless. It may seem fragile, yet it provides scaffolding for the world’s tallest skyscrapers. I designed this new bamboo-inspired collection as an invitation to travel; an inexhaustible source of inspiration, poetry, and dreams,” explains Er.
“I have known Roche Bobois for more than 20 years and I appreciate the brand’s generous and very diverse spirit, both in terms of style and culture: bright, colourful collections offer a fresh yet faithful interpretation of the French art de vivre.”
Of the collection, Eric Amourdedieu, General Director of Roche Bobois says: “Our collaboration with Jiang Qiong Er, a contemporary designer who draws inspiration from the rich repertoire of Chinese arts and culture, marks the beginning of an extraordinary human and creative journey. A testament to our partnership, this graphic and sophisticated collection encompasses a range of exquisite pieces including seats, a console, cocktail tables, decorative ceramic accessories, lamps, rugs, and screens – an integral element in Chinese decorative arts. Jiang Qiong Er’s designs will be showcased for the first time at our Milan showroom during Design Week.
We are very proud and honoured to announce that select designs from this collection are featured in the scenography of the Gardiens du Temps exhibition at the prestigious Musée Guimet in Paris, as part of the French-Chinese year.”
The Bamboo Mood Collection comprises a sofa, a screen, a console, and cocktail tables, together with rugs and ceramics.
