Pierre Cronje: Quoin Rock Wine Estate
Gracefully positioned on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains in Stellenbosch, Quoin Rock Wine Estate offers guests a stellar combination of jaw-dropping Winelands views, gourmet dining and elegant wines – all to be enjoyed in elegantly crafted spaces.
Brought to life with the help of master furniture maker Pierre Cronje and architectural designer Yuliya Gaiduk, each space at Quoin Rock Wine Estate, from the warm reception area to the fine-dining restaurant Gåte and the airy wine lounge, speaks of the estate’s rich heritage in a contemporary design vocabulary.
Known for its high-quality, custom-designed and hand-crafted solid wood furniture, Pierre Cronje was a natural choice for the estate to partner with.
Founded more than three decades ago by Pierre Cronje, the studio’s impeccably designed and manufactured pieces add a luxury artisan touch to the interiors at Quoin Rock, from the herringbone floors to the custom wall panels.
“Sometimes beauty lies where you least expect it,” says Pierre Cronje.
“Our creative team worked with Quoin Rock Wine Estate to create an expertly crafted herringbone solid oak floor. The pinnacle of high-end interior quiet luxury that will age gracefully over time.
“Drawing inspiration from its picturesque surroundings in Simonsberg, we also designed custom textured oak panels, thoughtfully shaped and layered to form a graceful silhouette reminiscent of Simonsberg Mountain, to bring the reception space to life. The warm wood tones of the French oak reservation counter, juxtaposed with stone cladding and bronze accents set the tone for an unparalleled visual experience.”
But the proverbial design cherry here is a giant pair of handcrafted doors that form the entrance to the restaurant.
“Reflecting a particular air of culinary excellence that can be only discovered within its threshold, these majestic solid mahogany doors are a bold statement of refined luxury, meticulously hand-created by our master craftsmen for Quoin Rock Wine Estate,” says Pierre Cronje.
A beacon of style – and taste – Quoin Rock Wine Estate showcases not only the best in regional cuisine and wines but also some of South Africa’s top craftsmanship.
