LES AMIS Coffee Table by OKHA: A Sculptural Dialogue in Granite and Steel

The launch of the LES AMIS coffee table introduces companionship as a design principle, not sentimentally, but structurally. Conceived by OKHA Creative Director Adam Court, the piece is composed of two cubic volumes held in calibrated alignment, each distinct in material and presence, yet inseparable in meaning.

Grounded by a titanium granite plinth, the composition carries the quiet authority of stone – dense, earth-formed and enduring. Above it, a highly reflective stainless steel volume catches and releases light, amplifying movement within the room. Granite absorbs and anchors; steel sharpens and projects. Together, they create a dialogue between weight and momentum, past and future, solidity and reflection.

Low and architectural in stance, LES AMIS is governed by proportion, offset and alignment. The measured interval between the two forms becomes a third presence, an intentional negative space that shapes shadow, breath and depth. From this geometry emerge three horizontal planes, layered within a compact footprint, offering function without disturbing the clarity of the composition.

“The starting point was companionship as a structural idea,” says Court. “I was interested in how two forms could remain distinct, yet only make sense through their relationship.” The name Les Amis – French for friends – captures this calibrated proximity. “The design only comes into focus when you read them together.”

Materiality is central to the table’s identity. “Stone and metal carry different energies,” Court explains. “One absorbs weight and time; the other reflects and sharpens light. Placing them together creates tension and clarity simultaneously.”

LES AMIS is best situated within open living spaces – salon settings, long sightlines, linear seating arrangements – where material contrast can fully register. Rather than occupying space as a single block, it establishes a low topography shaped by light, proportion and pause. In true OKHA fashion, restraint allows presence to speak with quiet force.
