Leighjer Designs: unique custom furniture.
A trusted name in the industry, Leighjer Designs is well-known for its unique custom furniture.
With a focus on bespoke seating solutions, from bar stools to sofas, the company is known for their quality and craftsmanship, or what is known as “The Leighjer Way”.
“It’s come up, time and time again. How do we do what we do?” Says CEO Devan Manicum.
“There are a few steps that go into making the furniture we make. I guess the first and most important stage is design. We can’t go anywhere without knowing the destination first. Dimensions, foam density, fabric choice, structure, placement, and time frame are a few of the big decisions that have to be considered before we get cracking. The goal is to make it seamless and minimise the number of setbacks we have to navigate around.
The first step in production is, of course, the woodwork. Getting the structure and shape right. I think it’s a bit self-explanatory as to why the structure needs to be done first but we do a few things that give us a cutting edge. Our first ace up our sleeve is the use of industrial pine. This type of wood is treated to last longer. It comes with the great benefit of being cost-effective, light, and pliable but doesn’t hurt you in the long run by deteriorating quickly.
Then we get foamed up. Comfort is placed on the hard structure. The nature of custom-made furniture is all about being adaptable to meet the needs of our customers in a good time frame, so this means our foam needs to be cut, joined, and worked into some very challenging spaces from time to time. While this is taking place, our cutters and seamsters are getting the fabric ready to be upholstered with a finishing touch.”
This quality-focused approach has helped the company build a solid reputation and many lasting relationships with satisfied customers, including interior designers, over the years – and has been crucial to its success.
