Casarredo: A sofa that tells the story of climate change
Be transported to a magical place of intrigue with the new sofa design by Francesco Binfaré for Edra, available locally through Casarredo. Inspired by the natural world and real environmental concerns, this is far more than your conventional sofa system. On the contrary, this piece aims to tell a story and share a message about climate change.
Now available through Casarredo, this fascinating furniture piece will make you stop and think about the world at large. In a bold move, the designer has opted to create something spectacular that is not only a functional furniture item but also connects with people on a deeper level to create awareness about a global concern that affects us all.
Every individual part of the design has been considered in this sofa to enhance the designer’s message.
The sofa has a soft seat made of feather and Gellyfoam that represents pack ice (a mass of ice floating in the sea, formed by smaller pieces freezing together). The shape is irregular but equivalent to the encumbrance of a perpendicular angle that consists of a loveseat and a sofa, with a coffee table in the corner.
Resting on top, a big ‘Bear’ lies on its side, serving as a backrest. It is a contemporary landscape that tells the story of our times of climate change and the melting of glaciers, but also of human feelings that accompany them: loneliness but also innocence, happiness, foolishness and the ability to enjoy the little things; like the warm sunshine on the back of the bear or the nascent Northern lights in its night version.
It is a touching domestic landscape that takes furniture manufacture to a whole new level. As if an artistic expression in itself, the humble sofa has been elevated to create awareness – a talking point for all who behold its bold design. For more visit Casarredo.
