The importance of research, both scientific and technological, has always been at the forefront of Kettal’s product development. The highly innovative nature of the brand means that one can enjoy a high-quality product. Kettal, loyal to its philosophy of respect for the environment, uses 100% ecological and recyclable paint, and the wood used is protected under Perhutani certification. Kettal aims to constantly innovate and seek out new materials and forms of production.
As far as manufacturing and innovation, when Kettal produced the Stampa chair, they used 6 different manufacturing techniques for just one piece of furniture: extrusion, injection, printing, drilling, laser profiling, welding and hand finishing, using all their know-how built up over the last 50 years. They combined new and traditional processes to produce this chair, all of them absolutely necessary for its manufacture.

Over the years Kettal have included new and original fabrics in their collections, such as Nido d’Ape, a 3D fabric created as a result of more than two years’ research. Nido d’Ape is an interwoven three-dimensional PVC fabric with exceptional technical features: it’s breathable, it resists friction and all the elements and UV rays and it’s washable. It was designed by the famous designer Patricia Urquiola.
This year, Kettal presented a new range of outdoor fabrics called “Terrain Fabrics”, “Geometric Fabrics”. What we are seeing more often is Kettal’s outdoor range being specified for indoor applications. The theory is, if it works outside, it is going to do even a better job on the inside. 85% of Kettal’s products are handmade. It´s a very labour intensive process but this has proven over 50 years to be the perfect formula. The ‘Cala’ is a high backed armchair. The chair has a majestic spatial presence with transparent and light surfaces.
The open weave of the rope provides a latticed window for visual privacy while maintaining a connection to the natural elements. ‘Cala’ may be used for outdoor dining as well as a chair to lounge in. The wide selection of metal coatings, rope colours and cushion fabrics offer many possibilities to tailor the identity of the chair to suit different projects. Cala’s seat frame is made from coated aluminium sections. The weave is knitted rope. The chair comes with two options of teak legs or an aluminium pedestal base.
