Casarredo: FontanaArte Chooses Stefano Boeri Architects

For over eighty years FontanaArte has represented the best of Italian design and manufacturing with iconic objects that have never dated. Their latest lighting revolutions are available locally through agents Casarredo.

Today, FontanaArte reworks its tradition focusing on contemporary lifestyle and continues to amaze, surrounding itself with masters such as Max Ingrand and Gae Aulenti as its artistic directors, and names such as Umberto Riva, Shigeru Ban, Alvaro Siza, Renzo Piano as designers, to name but a few.

For design week 2019 – in the Euroluce biennial – FontanaArte called upon Stefano Boeri Architects and launched “lasospesa”, the new table lamp.

Lasospesa

For one of the best-known Milanese architects in the world, whose Bosco Verticale is one of the most representative and iconic projects of our time, trying his hand at a lamp has been an interesting change of scale.

Lasospesa is in fact a symmetrical table lamp, born from the elementary principle of incorporating two cylinders: a cylinder of primary light suspended in a cylinder of diffused
light.

“A non-lamp with multiple uses and changing luminosity, simple and classic, lasospesa seems to have always been there, where you put it” says Stefano Boeri.

The essentiality of the diffused light table lamp is provided by an external diffuser – rigorously glass in the manner of FontanaArte – crafted with four different finishes: transparent and striped, frosted, copper painted and smoked painted. The internal diffuser is frosted borosilicate glass.

“One of the interpreters of contemporary style – not only in architecture and design – has conceived another step of timeless continuity for FontanaArte”- affirms Francesco Librizzi, artistic director of FontanaArte.

The presentation introduced by managing director Giuseppe Di Nuccio opened design week and the series of initiatives involving the Archive of Gae Aulenti, the Torre Branca and the new FontanaArte shop-in-shop in La Rinascente.

“We are proud to represent all the “Milan-ness” of design week with Stefano Boeri and lasospesa, presenting it in our flagship store in Corso Monforte, the Milanese street of light, which, together with other stages of the week, makes up the FontanaArte Tour of Milan, a genuine homage to Milan and its culture of design” – underlines Giuseppe Di Nuccio.

Founded in Milan in 1932 by Gio Ponti and Pietro Chiesa, FontanaArte is considered the premier decorative lighting manufacturer in the world. The new strategy, led by CEO Giuseppe Di Nuccio, is aimed at reimagining the magic of FontanaArte and its dialogue with the great masters of the Italian design tradition, anticipating a new aesthetic language together. A founding member of Altagamma, the exclusive club of Italian luxury brands, since 2016 FontanaArte is also part of the ItalianCreationGroup, along with prestigious brands like Driade, Valcucine, and Toscoquattro.
