Bloc Outdoor started in 2011, in Cape Town, South Africa. Founded by Jacques Drake because of his passion for timber, the outdoors and design. Jacques realized that there was a demand for exclusive quality outdoor timber furniture which could perform in the harsh African climate. Imports were available but nobody was producing anything locally.

After careful consideration, he started designing the Bloc Range. Thus birthed the beautiful ranges which are known for their minimalistic classic lines, a practical edge and locally made. Jacques’ experience in the timber construction industry for years gave him the advantageous knowledge and understanding of timber, and how it behaves in South African weather conditions. Its first Showroom opened in May 2011 in Woodstock, Cape Town. Since then the company has grown by supplying the local and international market with their products. Due to its success with many installations and satisfied clientele it opened a second Showroom in September 2016 in Kramerville, Sandton, Johannesburg and soon, more will follow. Today Bloc Outdoor manufacture and supply exclusive outdoor furniture for the private client and hospitality industry needs. It has a wide range of outdoor products which they produce locally under the “BLOC” brand and “imported ranges” that have been carefully selected for their discerning clientele. BLOC Outdoor furniture is made from IROKO timber, wood of the Iroko tree (Chlorophora Excelsa), native from the West Coast of Africa, also known as African Teak. The timber has been sustainably sourced from a chain of suppliers. It is carefully selected as the choice of timber due to its ability to perform when exposed to the extreme outdoor conditions. The timber is tough, dense, very durable and resistant to decay. It appears light yellow-brown to dark honey brown in colour with a straight grain. It has been cured in a kiln to the right moisture content intended for its purpose which makes it’s a perfect choice for joinery in furniture and in the boat building industry. Due to it being a natural product colour variation is expected. The “BLOC” range, which is produced locally, consists of outdoor sofa’s, dining tables, chairs, loungers, beanbags, umbrella’s, fire pits and more.
