The Restaurant Week 5-Year Anniversary saw over 15,000 guests making their way to the 100 participating top restaurants. With 774 reviews, restaurants were rated according to cuisine, service and ambiance.

After crunching the numbers some more, it is with great pleasure that Restaurant Week South Africa can now announce the best performing restaurants of the Restaurant Week 5-Year Anniversary 2017 Edition. The Best Restaurant Award of the 5 year Anniversary 2017: Durbanville Hills in The Winelands has been awarded with the Best Restaurant Award 5-Year Anniversary edition 2017. They received exceptionally high scores for cuisine: 9.8, service: 10 and ambience: 9.5, resulting in a beautiful average of 9.7. Previous winners of the Best Restaurant Award are Myoga (Autumn 2017), Black Bamboo (Spring 2016), Myoga (Autumn 2016), The Restaurant at Newton Johnson (2015), Buitenverwachting (2014) and Planet Restaurant (2013).

BESTDISH 2017 AWARD-Cheese Cake Strawberries Mascarpon at LBV Bistro-Wine Bar by www.getinmybelly.co.za

From all pictures that were shared on social media using the hashtag #BestDish, 10 pictures were selected as finalists and uploaded for a final voting round on Facebook. Although the 10 finalists (LBV Bistro & Wine Bar, Luce at Hyde Park, Glen Carlou, Glenda’s, oneNINEone, Myoga, Restaurant Jardine, The Black Bamboo) clearly all master the art of plating, it was the Cheese Cake, Strawberries and Mascarpone from Talented Head Chef Darren O’Donovan of LBV Bistro & Wine Bar in Johannesburg that got the most likes in the #bestdish competition. The best dish had 30% of the votes, and scooped the Best Dish Award 5-Year Anniversary 2017.

Previous winners of the Best Dish Award are the Black Bamboo (Autumn 2017), Athol Place (Spring 2016), Kitima (Autumn 2016), Marc’s Table (2015), The Restaurant at Newton Johnson (2014) and Central One (2013).   ABOUT THE AWARDS During the Restaurant Week 5 Year Anniversary 2017 (from 19 October until 5 November), 100 participating restaurants designed a special menu and served this to Restaurant Week guests exclusively. Afterwards, every guest is invited to review the restaurant.

To qualify for the Best Restaurant Award, we look at the highest average score with a minimum number of 20 reviews (except Durban because this city had less reviews). Contrary to most awards, the Restaurant Week South Africa Awards are therefore determined by diners and their experience during Restaurant Week, and not by a jury. This way we ensure that the lauded restaurants are restaurants where real people like to eat.

SURPRISE! ‘WINNERS EDITION 2017’ (23 NOV – 3 DEC) Surprise! Based on the reviews we also know which top 10 restaurants per region delivered amazing experiences. This is the reason for organizing the first Restaurant Week ‘WINNERS EDITION 2017’!
