Keep the heat in this winter with R Kaplan Interiors
Winter is fast approaching and with it, the cold is quickly creeping in. We chat to the design experts from R Kaplan Interiors in Johannesburg about their top tips to prepare the home for the winter months ahead.
Materials, textiles and rugs are key for creating a warm interior. Colour too is an important factor in the overall look of your space – warmer colours naturally create a warmer interior. Here’s what Romi Kaplan, founder of R Kaplan Interiors had to say:
Materials: For a cosy living room, mix warm materials such as velvets, cashmere and a chunky knit to evoke a sense of warmth this winter. A touch of fur will create a winter’s feel and may tempt you to cuddle up and keep the heat inside this season. Layering of fabrics will further add a cosy and sophisticated look. You can update your bedroom by layering your bed with luxurious fabrics, throws and scatters. Add a heavy curtain to a room to keep the cold out.
Rugs: Rugs are beautiful and versatile and can be used in just about any room in the house – from the bathroom to the bedroom and living room. Add a rug to a space to create warmth and a layered look. Keep your toes from frosty floors by placing rugs in different areas around the home.
Colour: Colour influences one’s mood and can create calming or exciting interiors. Warm colour shades feel relaxing while orange tones are excellent for energetic and cheerful interior decorating. Red colours, on the other hand, are intense and dramatic. Yellow, orange and red colours together create a wonderful stimulating effect which people can really enjoy in winter. These colours, combined with warm décor accessories are excellent winter decoration ideas for creating pleasant, warm and cosy living spaces. If you prefer neutral colours then just add your cosy fabrics to create the warmth but remember to use different textures to keep the space alive.
Fireplaces: Whether a gas or wood fireplace, you can create warmth throughout your home with a great ambiance. If you don’t have a fireplace, create your own heat with scented candles which will enhance a space and make it cosy and inviting. You don’t have to succumb to the cold this winter. Keep warm and enjoy decorating for the season with R Kaplan Interiors.
