Flowcrete secures Spar’s Secunda Store

Flowcrete provided a clean and durable surface for the Secunda Spar that wows customers with bright colours and decorative patterns.

To create this bespoke finish, Spar worked with Flowcrete South Africa to design and install high performance floors across the main shopping area, kitchen and butchers of the SuperSpar site as well as throughout the adjoining Tops Spar liquor store.

The seamless resin terrazzo system Mondéco Earth was chosen over an epoxy alternative, as it would provide the cleanability, functionality and longevity properties required alongside an almost unlimited design potential. The Mondéco range allows for multiple colours to be easily applied across the floor in intricate patterns. This design versatility is thanks to the system’s paint-by-numbers application method, where the outline is marked out using aluminium trims and then the resin material is poured into the designated sections.

The design potential of the seamless resin terrazzo system Mondéco allowed Spar to create a vibrant, interesting and pleasant retail experience in its new Secunda store.

Granite and flint additives were added to the resin terrazzo material within the SuperSpar and Tops Spar floors. The floor area was then diamond ground down to create a shimmering, dappled lustre across the finish. A vibrant white surface was applied in the SuperSpar’s main shopping area with curving shapes in red, blue, green, cream and turquoise interspersed across the floor. A decorative, single-tone Mondéco Earth Snow surface was applied in the adjacent Tops Spar liquor store.

The seamless and impervious nature of seamless resin terrazzo means that it is quick and easy to clean, minimising hassle for the site’s cleaning staff and ensuring that customers always see a hygienic and blemish-free floor area. The system’s durability means that it won’t deteriorate when faced with the heavy foot traffic, point loading, impacts, scuffs, scrapes and stains that floors in busy commercial facilities inevitably face. Prior to applying the floor finish, the site’s concrete slab had to be levelled out to SR1 to provide a substrate that the resin material would bond to and that would not disrupt the completed surface. flowcretegroup4 Contact: Flowcrete SA
