Flowcrete Promotes Floorzone Solution at Pick n’ Pay
A number of specialist flooring systems and coatings from Flowcrete South Africa have been used to create a durable and eye-catching floor finish for one of the country’s’ largest retail groups, Pick n’ Pay.
Covering a total area of 500 square metres, Flowcrete materials were chosen to replace the existing cement-based terrazzo screed at one of the retailer’s clothing stores located in the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in the East of Pretoria. The store’s surface was first ground to remove the existing clear seal coating and Flowcrete’s fast-drying screed system, Isocrete K-Screed, was later applied to a wet primer in order to build up the floor by a further 35mm in a localised area of some 60 square metres. Isocrete K-Screed contains the innovative K additive – a plasticising and accelerating admixture – that acts as a catalyst to speed up the cure of the sub-floor before applying final floor finishes and coatings. After four days, the fully dry surface was primed with Flowprime 348 with sand grains hand scattered into the primer. The entire surface area was then covered with Flowscreed Industrial Top – a self-leveling, rapid-setting cement based screed – at a thickness of 5mm.
After being lightly ground and following full cure, an application of Flowcrete’s Ivory 318 was then used to complete the surface, delivering an aesthetic similar to that of polished concrete. The entire flooring application was completed in a total of seven days and took place over a series of designated phases in order to keep downtime and disruption to the store’s retail operations to a minimum. The final floor finish is both easy to clean and maintain and acts as an attractive back-drop to Pick n’ Pay’s range of fashion clothing and merchandise.
