Choosing Flooring to go with the Coral Trend

The Pantone Color Institute, the world’s leading authority on colour design has announced the colour of the year: Living Coral. This colour is, according to the Institute’s website, an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.

The colour is described as vibrant, yet mellow, and honoured with bringing warmth and nourishment into our interior spaces, in order to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.

Living Coral comes straight out of nature, reminds us of the ocean, and offers a respite from the digital technology that has embedded itself into our lives. Warm golden corals hues offer us a sense of authentic connection to our world that we, as humans, desire.

This year’s colour is sociable and spirited, reminiscent of the joy and happiness experienced when by the ocean. The engaging nature of Living Coral welcomes and encourages light-hearted activity and symbolises our innate need for optimism and playful expression.

The Coral Trend can be incorporated seamlessly into luxury interiors in several ways. Living Coral is versatile and, by its nature, pairs perfectly with almost any laminate, vinyl or wood colour, including cool-tones, mid-tones, warmer hues and darks.

Coral Walls

Living Coral can work as a wall paint in a bedroom or living room, adding a warm lively feel to any space. This works excellently with a warm walnut or Brazilian cherry wood solid wood floor.

Coral Kitchen

Use Living Coral to enliven dining areas, this works well in combination with a muted blue and white or a neutral palette. Select an extra wide and extra-long Black Forest laminate plank in a vintage-style colour as a base for this look. Alternatively opt for something with a more modern feel from the Diamond Core vinyl range. Vinyl floors fair very well in high trafficked areas like kitchens owing to the boards’ exceptional dimensional stability and extreme water-resistance.

Coral accents

Pair coral accents, such as an accent wall or a piece of furniture in a coral shade in your living room. This can work extremely well with a cool, light herringbone laminate.

The Coral trend blends into luxury environments as either a splash of colour in a statement décor object, or across the wall behind a collection of art. Dark, rich wooden floors in a Silver Elm or a Brown Stone complete the look and add luxury allure to any interior space.

Mid-Century Coral

Living Coral, in its muted form, adds to any mid-century design and is finished off with a selection of greenery, cartographic drawings or three-legged stools.
