Opia Design: Classy and Cool with Concrete Tiles
Manufactured in France since 1850, the outstanding durability of concrete tiles led to a rapid development all over the world. It has since been impossible to replicate an industrial product with the same quality and character.
Concrete tiles are stunning in their durability and design – they create a classy, cool and detailed design that is unmatched in its radiance and quality. We particularly love the offerings available through the local supplier, Opia Design, who are passionate about protecting the artisans that keep a culture alive. Opia Design is a celebration of African design, multiculturalism and tradition.
In Morocco, the close relation with France and their common passion for architectural design, lead to unique creativity around the concrete tile. Thanks to a hydraulic-press technique that dates from 150 years ago, very little energy goes into the production of these tiles, consuming almost no energy to manufacture. Popham Design (now available through Opia Design) uses recycled packaging, grey water wherever possible and solar powered heating. Popham Design is Opia Design’s partner and supplier in this adventure and was chosen based on Opia’s strict criteria of design, quality, ethics and sustainability. Together, they believe in using materials and processes in the creation of concrete tiles that are environmentally friendly with suppliers that aim to follow a manufacturing process that adds as little stress on the environment as possible. Opia Design’s suppliers are engaged to guarantee a fair salary and social protection to all employees.
We consider that protecting artisans is what keeps a culture alive. Both Popham Design and Ateliers Zelij practice fair labor by providing their employees with a safe and healthy workplace in the form of paid holidays, health care benefits and an environmentally friendly production system. Opia and our suppliers are dedicated to maintaining an open, honest and respectful relationship with our customers. Contact: Opia Design
