Design with Klay: Surfaces That Steal the Show
In today’s interiors, surfaces once considered secondary are stepping into the spotlight. Designers are embracing ceilings and floors as expressive canvases—spaces where pattern, texture, and colour come together to tell a story. At the heart of this movement is Klay, redefining how natural materials can transform the atmosphere of a space.
Klay’s recent collaboration with Studio Amé brings this idea to life inside a playful ice cream shop, where Travertine Klompie Tiles form the foundation of a truly standout design. Laid in a windmill pattern, the tiles create a rhythmic sense of movement underfoot. Each motif is anchored by a small green tile that punctuates the warm terracotta tones, resulting in a floor that captures both craftsmanship and creativity. The effect is joyful, inviting, and unmistakably Klay.
A more refined expression of this approach can be found at La Bourgogne, where the same Klompie Tiles extend seamlessly from the floor to the ceiling. The travertine clay finish infuses the space with warmth and texture, softening the contemporary architecture and blurring the boundary between rustic artistry and modern luxury. The repetition of tiles overhead envelops the space in a cocoon-like calm—an experience that feels both grounded and elevated.
Together, these projects exemplify Klay’s belief that true design lies in the details. By reimagining surfaces as storytelling elements, Klay invites designers and homeowners alike to look beyond the expected—to see every plane, from floor to ceiling, as an opportunity for expression.
With Klay, even the most overlooked surface can become the highlight of your design
