Cemcrete: A Provencal Style House Tour
Let’s take an exclusive tour of a unique Johannesburg family home. This home is the perfect example of how ideal Cemcrete finishes are for the South African lifestyle.
We chatted to the owner about her unique Cemcrete finished family home:
How would you describe the style of your home?
A very relaxed Provencal style with an African influence.
Why did you choose Cemcrete floor and wall finishes for your home?
The specific Cemcrete finishes and colours I chose fit perfectly into the Provencal style, but more importantly I chose them because of their very easy maintenance. With two dogs, a cat, and now two toddlers, our floors, especially, take a hammering.
But Cemcrete’s floors are built to withstand this, and muddy paws, sticky fingers and food spills are a non-event; I wish my couches were this easy to keep clean… We love the natural handmade look of Cemcrete’s products, and they complement other natural elements we chose for our house; raw oak kitchen counters, linen curtains, handmade pots, etc. The overall effect is one of peace and tranquillity. I often wake up and feel I’m on holiday in a beautiful retreat, but still feel right at home. What is your favourite characteristic of cement finishes?
The “life” they portray. Overall the coatings give a specific finish, but look closer and you’ll see each application is unique, like a fingerprint. Cemcrete’s coatings are applied by hand, and therefore do not have that “mass-produced” look. What Cemcrete products and colours did you choose and why?
As we already had our screed in place CreteCote was the product of choice, and we chose the colour Tan. CemWash has a rough texture to it, adding its own design element, as opposed to a flat-colour paint. We chose CemWash in the colour Sandstone for the interior and exterior walls. And we chose SatinCrete walls, in the colour Beach Sand, in the open plan showers to keep the relaxed and open style flowing throughout. We even created a SatinCrete bath in our guest suit – it is such a treat!
