Unique Zoya Rugs
“Our passion for design and appreciation of local talent has inspired us to collaborate with South African artists, designers and manufacturers to create unique and bespoke rugs,” says Zoya, a Cape Town-based luxury carpet manufacturer.
“The artisans who create rugs for us use quality materials that provide lasting, affordable rugs. The designs we use are inspired by international trends that bring life and volume to any space,” the company continues.
The company’s intricate and unique woven designs are equally beautiful used as traditional floor coverings or as wall tapestries.
Here, Zoya shares how to utilise its rugs as gorgeous pieces of wall-hung art.
Tapestries are a great option for entryways, dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms – it creates a beautiful focal point and injects a room with colour and warmth. Plus it is a great sound absorber.
Kilims, Berbers, Navajo rugs and Persians all make great tapestry options.
Don’t be afraid to go big when it comes to wall-hung rugs – larger rugs create a far more striking impression.
A rug can be hung using carpet tacks or strong twine and PVC pipe or curtain rod, which may sound odd but results in a professional-looking end product. Velcro is another great option and the method most used by museums and galleries.
The hanging method you choose will depend on the size and weight of the rug, so keep this in mind when planning. You want an even distribution of weight so that the fibres are not damaged.
Rugs look best with the fringes tucked out of sight.
Never hang a rug over a heat source such as a vent, wall-mounted panel heater or fireplace as it can damage the rug and become a fire hazard.
Don’t hang a tapestry in direct sunlight as the colours will fade over time.
