The luxury furniture store Weylandts tasked Flowcrete South Africa with creating a floor for its’ new mezzanine extension that matched the existing finish across the store’s ground floor area.

Using the epoxy flooring system Flowshield, you can create a stunning white surface, which conveys a clean, minimalist style and ambiance. Weylandts desires this look and finish and have used it before, which made it an easy decision to do it again for their new store. They were looking for something easy to clean that would maintain a high performance surface for an extended period of time despite the foot traffic, point loading, scrapes, scuffs and scratches that it would be faced with on a daily basis. 1Flowcretebespoke-mezzanine-floor-for-luxury-furniture-store Requiring the same aesthetics, functionality and longevity in their new mezzanine area, they called on Flowcrete to assist them again. However, the upstairs level presented a challenge, as it had a coated imported shutter board substrate that the resin system would have to be laid onto, which is a difficult platform for resin flooring to bond with.

An small obstacle to conquer, Flowcrete used a different combination of products and a special plan was devised to prep the shutter boards. First the boards were sanded to level them out and to remove the coating, which would provide a key for the primer. The gaps between the boards were then filled in using a combination of scatter aggregate and Ivory 320. This preparation was critical for the success of the installation. 2bespoke-mezzanine-floor-for-luxury-furniture-store Once the boards were sanded and bonded together, Deckshield LXP primer was applied and allowed to cure for 12 hours. A coat of the solvent free, polyurethane system Deckshield in white was then applied and left to cure for another 12 hours. To complete the floor build up, two coats of Deckshield UV White were applied with a cure time of 12 hours between each coat.

The entire installation was carried out during normal trading hours with very minimal disruption to Weylandts’ business. Now the luxury furniture store can treat customers to an even bigger site which has been carefully crafted to ensure that the floor flows seamlessly from one level to the next, maintaining the same clean identity and high-end retail experience at all times.
