The Return of Material-Led Luxury in Contemporary Interiors
In both fashion and interiors, true luxury is rarely defined by appearance alone. It is shaped by material knowledge, craftsmanship and the quiet confidence of pieces designed to endure. Much like the couture houses of the early twentieth century, where fabric and technique were elevated to an art form, contemporary interior materials are increasingly returning to this same foundation.
Vescom’s latest textile wallcovering collection reflects this shift with a sense of nostalgic opulence. Drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship of the 1930s and ’40s, the collection comprises fifteen designs that explore texture, structure and subtle detail. Rather than overt decoration, the emphasis lies in the material itself – in the way it is woven, finished and experienced.
Each design reveals the processes behind its making. Variations in yarn, soft irregularities and layered weaving techniques introduce a tactile richness that feels both considered and authentic. These are surfaces that invite closer inspection, where the beauty lies not in perfection, but in the nuanced character of the textile.
Materiality sits at the centre of the collection. Natural fibres such as hemp, linen, wool, silk and cotton are used alongside viscose and recycled content, balancing sensory appeal with contemporary sustainability. The result is a series of wallcoverings that feel warm, grounded and inherently human, while still meeting the technical demands of high-performance interiors.
The designs themselves range from structured to expressive. Sisu interprets the classic herringbone of tailoring into a rhythmic surface, while Valora captures the softness of loom-woven textiles with an almost hand-finished quality. Ludi introduces the lightness of linen, and Amare and Sofia bring the enveloping depth of wool, with subtle metallic threads adding a quiet luminosity.
Available locally through Eshanima Fabrics, this collection finds a natural home within a brand known for its carefully curated textiles and enduring relationships with global design houses. From its Woodstock showroom, Eshanima continues to offer materials that balance craftsmanship, performance and thoughtful design, reflecting a renewed appreciation for surfaces that are as tactile as they are timeless.
