The Nostalgia Collection by Lula Fabrics
Celebrating their 10th anniversary in the industry this year, we hear from the owner of Lula Fabrics, Melissa Kerkhoff, about their stunning locally produced Nostalgia Collection.
“I designed this piece when I was 19 years old, while studying textile design, at the Ruth Prowse School of Art,” explains Melissa. “It made its debut in 2009, in the African Mischief Collection, in monochromatic colours, but then we elevated it to full colour on gorgeous, floppy, grey linens in 2014.
These digitally printed beauties are created in two ways: as full colour, rich, luxurious prints or with a vintage treatment where the colours are distressed. It is also printed on a choice of three gorgeous linens: swill, slub or twill linen.” Accompanying this traditional design is a strong classic stripe in indigo, charcoal, duck egg, medium grey, deep red and chartreuse.
These versatile stripes are the perfect accompaniment in any interior. The Nostalgia Collection finds meaning in its name – a wistful reminiscence and ‘nostalgic’ reminder of things of old. The colours and textures add depth and life, and the rich, sumptuous undertone. Visit their online store for more information and fabulous finds. Here you will find a variety of locally produced fabrics – mostly sumptuous linens and cottons – with an artisanal handprinted look and feel.
