Decorex Cape Town: Make Your Space Your Living Dream

The fusion of cosmopolitan creatives, African essence and natural splendour that pulsates throughout the Mother City will be intricately extended into the various features being showcased at Decorex Cape Town – co-sponsored by Plascon and Caesarstone – taking place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre from 27 to 30 April.

“Cape Town is renowned for its spirit of creative design so it’s important for Decorex SA to, not only meet this incredible talent, but find interesting and extravagant ways to inspire the city,” said Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director: Design, Lifestyle and Retail Exhibitions. “We feel we have really achieved this task by introducing some amazing new features to the show, while welcoming back a number of stalwarts that continue to adapt to new trends and ideas, all of which are connected to the ‘Make your space your living dream’ theme.”

A representation of some of Cape Town’s incredible designs will be featured at the ‘We are Cape Town’ installation which is conceptualised and curated by 100% Design South Africa’s Creative Director, Cathy O’Clery. Celebrating 2016’s ‘most creative city’, O’Clery will be showcasing work by enablers, curators, collaborators, studios and designers who have put Cape Town on the international map. Work by Cape Town-based design practitioners including Clementina van der Walt, Peta Becker and Hoi P’loy will reflect the depth and range of the local industry. Design inspiration will continue at the Décor District where four local designers will bring to life their individual interpretation of the Decorex SA #livingdream theme. Using quality products and furnishings selected during their months of preparation, the designers will complete their preferred room setting while incorporating elements from this year’s trends.

Representation of the favoured 2017 style and design extends to the Decorex SA Trend House where Anita Bloom, Creative Director: Lifestyle, Design and Retail Portfolio, has hand-selected a range of sponsored products – including this year’s incredible @home furniture and finishings – into a home space. This feature will give real-world insight into the Decorex SA 2017 trends with practical décor examples. Adding value to the home with insightful décor and gardening tips is the not-to-be-missed Builders DIY Theatre. Leaders in the DIY industry, as well as a number of celebrity speakers, will share advice on home and garden revamping, general improvements and fix-ups with live demonstrations throughout the four-day exhibition. This incredible range of innovative lifestyle and design solutions is set to fuel the creative fire which is why the 2017 Decorex Cape Town has introduced a fully-equipped Bloggers Lounge.

Here the industry’s renowned trendsetters will be given a comforting space to internalise and write about the wealth of information and products on display while enjoying their favourite cup of Illy coffee. Those looking to sample some of the area’s finest vintages can stop in at the Painted Wolf Wine Bar with proceeds from the sale of all wine going towards conservation efforts to protect the African wild dog. This environmentally responsible ethos will be translated into the bar’s design, carefully crafted by a local designer. Beverages can also be found at the Noir Restaurant + Bar presented by Bavaria.

The style of this libation dispensary will encompass the 2017 Black on Black trend with the vision being brought to light by Stellenbosch-based Petra Vonk Design. And, for those who prefer something warm, stop by at The Coffee Cup by Illy for one of their signature, on-the-go drinks. Another feature, bursting with pastel colour and contrast with black and white, is the exciting new Milk JUG Café located within the heart of the children’s décor stands. The beautiful stylings of Simply Child will be showcased in the café with their gorgeous children’s furniture range.

Here, children are given a creative space to reveal their inner designers on the chalk walls and colouring-in pads; interact with the toys and furniture and sample a range of delicious treats, including milkshakes, popcorn, donuts, macaroons as well as healthy taste alternatives. To view the country’s best range of décor and design offerings, get to Decorex Cape Town from the 27th to 30th April.
