Fabulous Feature Line-Up For Decorex Cape Town 2018
The highly-anticipated Decorex Cape Town – sponsored by Plascon – taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 27 April to 1 May, includes a noteworthy décor and design line-up brimming with a number of new #rhythmoflife features.
Colourful curations
Winners of the Best Overall Stand at this year’s Decorex Durban, Plascon has truly positioned itself as the colour expert with this beautiful installation that utilises a curved, ergonomic design finished in bold colours to entice customers. Headline sponsors of the exhibition, Plascon will have colour specialists on hand at its ‘colour café’ to disseminate insights into the importance of colour complements and contrasts on spatial perception and cognitive influence.
Channelling this year’s #rhythmoflife theme will be renowned interior design team, Mariano Roussow, who will craft an impressionable room setting for the popular Decorex Designer Spotlight feature. Visitors can expect a timeless design in this uniquely crafted space which reflects the décor, design and lifestyle trends in a completely innovative style.
Vanessa Haywood, a leading South African actress who featured in the four-time Oscar-nominated film, District 9, will form part of this year’s glamorous She Shed feature, in support of breast cancer awareness NGO, PinkDrive. Cape Contours Landscape Solutions and one other ground-breaking regional designer will be tasked with transforming a traditional outdoor shed into a women’s haven – reminiscent of the former Man Cave trend. Each designer will incorporate a touch of pink in this charity-driven feature which will raise funds and awareness for PinkDrive.
Interior inspiration
Vox Furniture, Changing Spaces and one other Cape Town-based designer will bring some local flavour to The Bedroom Project by infusing the 2018 #rhythmoflife trends into three enviable bedroom settings – a trendy apartment bedroom, serene beach house space and an elegant hotel room.
This is complemented by the ISCA Bathroom Trends Project where ISCA will showcase the most in-demand bathroom fittings and finishes in two on-trend settings. Curating these bathroom spaces will be fashion designers – winners of the SABC3 Win-a-Home competition, Abiah Mahlase and Bradley Muttitt, who will centre their design on the ‘Indulged’ trend, while renowned ‘Lovilee’ blogger, Kari Kelly, will create a ‘Grounded’ bathroom setting.
Highlighting the importance of colour and design in the representation of the individual character – particularly in the growing years – is the innovative Rooms to Grow feature. Clever Little Monkey, Duett Kids’ Furniture and two other regional designers will take visitors on a journey of maturation in four separate room settings.
Proving that décor should awaken all the senses is the exciting new Design and Textile Elements’ feature which invites high-end local decorators and interior designers – including Moorgas and Waldren Interiors, Hertex, Biggie Best and Andrea Brand – to curate an interior room space using a range of tactile materials.
The impact of lighting on the feel and mood of any space is highlighted in the Lighting Elements – brought to you by Fundi Light+Living feature. Innovative lighting designs and a spectrum of lighting options from Fundi Light+Living will provide visitors with illuminating insights into trendy lighting solutions for any room.
Leaning into the Elevated Organics Trend is the Natural Elements – brought to you by Neolith feature which incorporates a range of nature décor products gently fused into a sensory space. Marble, cork, glass, brass, metallics, bamboo, wood and ceramics will bring the outdoors into this home installation.
The natural element will move into 100% Design South Africa’s striking exhibition concept, 100% Clay. Curated by Cathy O’Clery Creative Director of 100% Design South Africa, this earthy feature will showcase local handmade ceramics by leading ceramicists using age-old techniques to create a contemporary effect. Each craftsman in the feature – collocated with Decorex Cape Town – will present one bowl, one jug, one cup and one plate in varying aesthetic styles.
Kitchen Trend Project brought to you by Careline Lifestyle Spaces will create an exquisite on-trend kitchen. With the kitchen no longer being designed in isolation, kitchen spaces are taking cues from the rest of the open-plan areas including the dining room and lounge. Without the separation of rooms, the kitchen has become a multi-purpose space better suited to serving modern lifestyles.
Garden, landscaping and DIY
The sense of the outdoors moves into the EGO Garden of the Future, brought to you by Smith Power Equipment. Visitors will get to witness the high-technology capabilities of EGO Power gardening and landscape equipment – launched for the first time in South Africa. These environmentally and user-friendly products require no petrol and expose users to a world of silent gardening.
Visitors looking to renovate or build will gain vital industry insights from the Builders DIY Theatre where experts in the field will give scheduled talks and demonstrations on DIY projects that touch on the latest in furniture and décor trends.
Taste and style
Taste and design will be further entwined at the gourmet installation, Rhythm Restaurant + Bar. This designer space, crafted with wooden furnishings and stunning indoor greenery, provides visitors with a chance to relax.
Inspiration continues to overwhelm at The Tasting Room Wine Bar. The design is perfectly paired with some of the Western Cape’s best vintages on offer.
