Studio Lloyd: Onguma Nature Reserve, Etosha National Park, Namibia
For the new Camp Kala Lodge at Onguma Safari Camps in the Etosha National Park in Namibia, local design house Studio Lloyd created two functional art pieces that are complete opposites to one another.
Commissioned by Interior Design leaders Foxbrowne Creative, Studio Lloyd designed a dark Onyx and light Alabaster light sculpture. Their signature handcrafted crochet design is the ideal eye-catcher for a space like Camp Kala and offers an immediate conversation starter.
The light sculptures are located in the main house of the lodge and dress a dining table and living & seating space overlooking the vast waterhole of the camp. The material Studio Lloyd uses is ideal for any environment and offers properties such as UV protection which holds the colour in its fibres to avoid it from fading over time. Furthermore, other than natural fibres, the rope which is commonly used in the marine yachting industry is resistant to rot and insect inhabitation, which for a space like Namibia is well suited.
On a mission toward longevity
The material is extremely durable which is in line with the studio’s longevity mission. They have set the goal of working against throwaway culture in hospitality by handcrafting designs made to last. Studio Lloyd has taken a different approach in sustainability as they have consciously chosen a polyester braid based textile that is easy to maintain and to focus on the durability of all of their products.
Each light sculpture design is custom created for every client and will never be replicated. This serves each customer to receive a unique piece of functional art for their specific space. Moreover, Studio Lloyd’s products range from the sculptures to pendants, organic outdoor furniture, carpets, floor mats and other decorative elements.
A Global Footprint
The design house works all over the world and has recently entered the Middle Eastern design sphere.
