Spotlight Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
Tucked into the glitzy Beverly Hills, power couple Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s family home serves as a magical respite for the A-listers where they can not only embrace their children but the great outdoors.
The couple enlisted the help of AD100 interior designer Jake Arnold to help shape the property into the luminous, colour-filled space it is today.
“Every house we’ve ever had reflects the moment we were in in our lives, like chapters in a book,” Teigen explains.
“Our last house was darker and more cloistered, like a sanctuary,” Legend continues.
“We were attracted to this place because of its lightness and airiness. We love how open it feels, and how it’s so connected to the outdoors. We wanted to create something magical, especially for the kids,” he says.
To help achieve this, the couple enlisted the help of Arnold, whom they spurred on to step outside of his comfort zone and inject the space with bright pops of colour and other playful elements.
“They like elements with a little glam and fun, and they’re drawn to work by bold, contemporary artisans, which is not my usual thing,” Arnold admits.
“But Chrissy and John are the most welcoming, supportive people, and they trusted me. My challenge was to take this very contemporary, shiny new house and apply my philosophy to it- to make it inviting and livable, a version of what I do that speaks directly to their personalities.”
To this end, Arnold replaced the angular staircase with a more sculptural one, opting for “rounded silhouettes to offset the rectilinear architecture” he explains.
This philosophy was also applied to the furniture and fittings, which include a signature Jeff Zimmerman light branch that hangs above a gently rounded Joseph Dirand dining table, a crescent-shaped Pierre Yovanovitch oak sofa that rests on a plush, biomorphic mohair rug and a custom curvaceous bar wrapped in brass in the music room.
The result? A warm and welcoming, super stylish family home that’s open to all.
“That’s the way we like it,” Teigen says. “It’s always open house here.”
