Printemps Lands in NYC: Inside the Luxe New Flagship at One Wall Street
French department store Printemps has made a bold American debut inside New York’s historic One Wall Street, where designer Laura Gonzalez has transformed two lower levels into a 55,000-square-foot flagship destination. Housed within the 1931 Art Deco skyscraper designed by Ralph Walker, the store is accessed through the iconic Red Room – formerly the Bank of New York lobby- featuring red-and-gold mosaic tiles by muralist Hildreth Meière.
The flagship is part of a sweeping redevelopment by Macklowe Properties, including one of the city’s largest office-to-residential conversions, completed in 2023. Now home to 566 residences, Whole Foods, and Printemps, One Wall Street has been redefined as a lifestyle hub in the heart of the Financial District.
Gonzalez’s vision – rooted in the elegance of a Parisian apartment and the heritage of Printemps’ original Boulevard Haussmann location – combines luxury with sustainability. Each of the ten shopping zones is crafted with upcycled materials, from recycled plastic tabletops to resin floral sculptures. The layout leads visitors through a fluid journey of couture, cosmetics, and homeware, with immersive experiences at every turn.
Highlights include a champagne bar designed by Brooklyn artist William Coggin, spa treatment rooms behind embroidered curtains, and a sculptural shoe salon with LED ceilings and curated displays. Upstairs, the men’s salon features Versailles parquet flooring and oversized floral pendants, while the adjacent Red Room Bar and forthcoming fine-dining restaurant, Maison Passerelle, anchor the experience in glamour.
“New York is a place where anything is possible,” says designer Laura Gonzalez. “The spirit of the city allowed us to dream beyond limits.”
