Plethora Design: Crafting Spaces that Breathe
Nicola Townsend
For Nicola Townsend , the founder of Plethora Design, design is more than aesthetics – it is an act of empathy and creativity, rooted in how people truly live. Every project begins with listening. Understanding a client’s dreams, needs, and the feeling they want to create sets the foundation for spaces that feel both personal and intentional. From the first mood board to the final cushion, every detail is approached with care and purpose.
Being a woman in design has shaped this philosophy. “Homes and workspaces influence how we connect, recharge, and move through our days,” says Nicola Townsend . “At Plethora Design, interiors are never treated as collections of objects; they are reflections of identity, thoughtfully crafted to feel grounded, warm, and authentic.”
Texture plays a starring role in current projects.
Bouclé, raw stone, woven fabrics, aged timber, and natural fibres are no longer supporting characters; they are focal points that invite touch and add soul to a room. Paired with earthy tones – olive, terracotta, and soft mauve – they create atmospheres that are calm, balanced, and timeless.
Spring also turns attention outdoors.
Plethora Design embraces alfresco spaces as an essential extension of the home, designing patios and gardens that host both quiet mornings and vibrant gatherings. Winter, after all, is the perfect moment to prepare spaces ready to bloom with the season.
Sustainability underscores every decision, whether it’s reclaimed wood, recycled textiles, or supporting local makers. Each project is a celebration of mindful living, where beauty meets story, and design becomes a lasting expression of comfort and connection.
