Plascon House Tour: Urban Heritage Home
Tradition meets modern design in today’s fascinating house tour where an old building is infused with urban elements to bring it into the 21st Century.
A soft grey paint tones down the decorative panelling on the walls and ceiling in the dining room, linking with gunmetal-effect velvet curtains. Mid-century furniture and mesmeric lighting provide modern focal points against the traditional decorative accents splashed across this room.
We love the dark wood floors and beautifully Industrial light pendants hanging above the dining table from rustic chains. A curved entryway also softens the hard edges and adds to the character of this eclectic abode.
A library wall of books adds colour and charm in the living room. The white detailed ceiling hints at the heritage of this home, but with modern finishes, such as an oversized white woven chandelier, the room is given a fresh, urban edge.
The mix of patterns and colours is fascinating in this space. The wallpaper is hand-painted de Gournay while gorgeous rich blue fills the bookcase and striking vintage chairs add a pop of colour in peachy tones. A sixties sofa bed adds character here, complementing the sixties side tables and vintage coffee table in glass and metal.
Each room boasts glorious ceiling finishes with interesting decorative accents but the rooms come alive through the choice of modern furnishings. The dark panelling and carvings in the family room are beautiful but had started to feel rather overwhelming, so influences were brought in from other eras – ranging from the Sixties icons right up to pieces by contemporary makers – to create spaces that are coherent yet varied.
A dark, shimmering chandelier echoes the shapes of the architecture in the family room (pictured below), while striking a more contemporary note.
