Marrakech’s Majorelle
Occupying a prime position in Marrakech’s Majorelle district, hotelier Christian Schallert’s new home slash boutique hotel, Maison Brummell Marjorelle overlooks the famous Majorelle Gardens and is just a stone’s throw from Rue Yves Saint Laurent.
Designed by New Zealand architect Bergendy Cooke and Moroccan architect Amine Abouraoui, the immaculately designed property was built to accommodate family, friends and travellers.
Built from scratch, the terracotta-hued property was inspired by the Cubist Art Deco architecture of Musée Berbère right next door, and elegantly combines Moorish and Modernist elements to spectacular effect that allows the new build to effortlessly blend into its surroundings.
The house consists of a custom-built classic Moroccan kitchen and airy dining room on the ground floor, as well as a private hammam with a massage room, steam bath, and heated plunge pool.
Further levels include eight suites, offering accommodation for up to 16 guests, with each room boasting terrazzo stone floors, handcrafted wood and brass furniture from local producer Maison Nicole, lights by Italians Vesoi, faucets and taps by Neve, Lama door handles by Gio Ponti, and other custom pieces.
“Three years in the making, the result is an outstanding architecture gem, a harmonious place where high-end design, beautiful bespoke furniture and a quality finish come together. This house is a dream for design lovers. The modern aesthetic is complemented by design classics such as the Egon Eierman chairs and Ingo Maurer’s paper lamp,” says the team.
Guests can choose between a Garden Deluxe or Marjorelle Superior room – all in soothing hues of whites, creams and greys enlivened by gold accents and varied textured surfaces, such as traditional Tadelakt plaster, wood and stone.
“Our spacious and exclusive Garden Deluxe rooms come with lush private gardens with an outdoor bathtub and sun loungers,” the team explains. “Our Marjorelle Superior rooms, on the other hand, are cosy and comfortable. These rooms are made for nesting in.”
