La Grange Interiors: West Coast Living at Varswaterbaai

We’re heading to a secluded seaside retreat located in a nature reserve on the West Coast of South Africa. Here, a newly refurbished residence is one of only 11 houses built on the estate in 1986. The design team from La Grange Interiors was called upon to breathe new life into this blissful abode.

The thinking behind the recent update of the interior furnishings by Sumari Krige, an innovative Interior Designer based in Cape Town, was to create a ‘home away from home’ environment. It is subsequently a tranquil place where the owners can recharge outside of their busy lives.

Rustic seaside charm

Easy comfortable living was key. Sumari thus had the opportunity to perfect her signature style by combining neutral tones with layered textures with rustic accent pieces. We love the earthy feel of the interior. Textured wall hangings and nature-inspired prints hint at the great outdoors. This does well to bring the innate beauty of nature inside. Furthermore, the home is filled with textural elements such as woven light fittings that extend the organic style from one room to the next.

The serene nature of the location subsequently ties into the design. Here, natural elements were incorporated throughout. The use of natural stone clad walls adds a wonderful texture here.

The landscape comes first

Furthermore, custom and unique furniture pieces are visually appealing, but Sumari insists, ‘neither these nor the interiors compete with the landscape. The unspoiled, rugged, natural surroundings come first.

The overall look is thus rustic, coastal and timeless. As a result, this makes the home feel like an inviting space all family members can enjoy.
