Kim H: An Industrial Chic Residence
This industrial-chic residential abode located in Irene, Centurion, brought industrialism and contemporary Interior Design together for splendid cohesion.
The house is situated in a lifestyle estate with strict rules as to what the houses had to look like on the outside. Aluminium sheeting, reds, beiges and greys with timber and stone wall cladding all add to a contemporary take on farmhouse style architecture. The interior had to be different and exquisite, a surprising contrast from the outside and from the expected.
The team from Kim h Interior Design were set to take on this task and to modernise the interior with a stark black balustrade, perfectly framing the double volume spaces. Charcoal greys and stark whites were brought in to make the house crisp and contemporary with a keen focus on materiality and textures.
Dark stained timbers, black metals and tanned leathers made the space masculine and industrial with plush rugs and fluffy scatter cushions and fabrics to soften the space, to brighten it and make it a home. The colour palette remained relatively monochromatic and neutral, with small pops of colour in the artwork, scatters and accessories. A stark contrast between hard and soft, form and formless coherence.
There was a key focus on natural materials such as timbers, leathers, stone and metal and their relationship with tactile elements. Mirrors were used carefully to reflect the multiple double and triple volume spaces to create a space that is grand and spectacular with a multitude of natural light.
Textures are constantly used in conjunction with each other, glass and timber, bone and brick, velvet and brass, carpet and concrete, leather and metal. A constant contrast between hard and soft, masculine and feminine.
Smalls and accessories played a pivotal role in this residential, high quality and designer accessories, art and sculptures tied the space together and filled in the blanks and brought colour, visual weight and interest into a monochromatic space.
The Kim h team did an amazing job!
