Plascon House Tour: An Upcycled Victorian Home
A neglected Essex house is given a full makeover in today’s house tour that draws inspiration from reclaimed materials and upcycled, eclectic pieces. The owners saw the hidden potential of this old Victorian abode and breathed new life into the place with modern fixtures and fresh appeal, here in the heart of Essex, England.
Filled with innovative upcycled ideas, this home is an evident play on old and new styles – the perfect mix and match of the past and present to make it feel lived in, yet fresh and appealing. Period features, high ceilings and an abundance of natural light are evident throughout this home, with a quirky, modern twist. Reclaimed parquet flooring is used in sections of the home. Fold-away doors open directly onto an English terrace – a great space in which the indoors and outdoors merge. In the dining room, a playful mix of accent pieces is used to hint at the owner’s love of quirky elements. Here the walls, cabinets, fireplace and piano are all painted in the same tone to create a seamless presence. The result is a contemporary ambiance where the room actually feels larger than it is. We also love the quirky light fitting above the minimalist wooden table with benches. The kitchen has a bit of a country chic design to it. A farmhouse kitchen sink immediately grabs one’s attention as does the magnitude of the kitchen island with its luxurious marble work surface. Seemingly a functional kitchen area, we love the neutral tones offset by modern amenities and an industrial light fitting, which gives this space a definite edge. A contemporary geometric print is evident in the bedroom; as is a modern floating shelf with interchangeable artwork. We love the curved windows reminiscent of the Victorian design era; here light is a welcome addition to this interior. Contact: Plascon Trends Via Photo: David Parmiter
