House Tour: An Australian Seaside Home
Out with tradition and in with a beautiful modern take on a blissful seaside retreat. This Australian beach house boasts a contemporary look that reflects its coastal location.
The brief for this family home at the sea was to create an authentic, timeless design that marries mid-century modern and coastal influences. It was to be an ideal showcase for the homeowners’ own business of similarly inspired furniture and décor.
The exterior
The home’s exterior boasts a modern black and white look. A white-painted brick facade gives the exterior a fresh and inviting ambience. Black accents add to the contemporary feel. Right at the front of the house, a little courtyard opens up to a seating area, cleverly enclosed by a curved wall. The curve of this breeze block wall is counterbalanced by the punctuation of articulated lines.
Step inside
The front door pivots open into a large, open-plan kitchen and living space, with soft, sanded wood floors.
A beautiful soft colour scheme gives the interior a light ad bright ambience. Here muted grey and beige tones set the scene, which pops against light wood and concrete surfaces. Large open plan spaces are ideal for family life in this home. Paired with neutral tones and contemporary finishes, the home feels modern and warm. We love the contemporary blend of materials that add depth to the home.
There is absolutely no hint of any seaside cliches when it comes to this modern beach house. Here, subtle hints shine through the use of the materials – with sanded floorboards and wood accents.
The kitchen
As with any contemporary abode, the kitchen is certainly the heart of the home. And this is true here too where a large grey kitchen takes centre stage. The balanced proportions of an oversized kitchen island pendant reigns over a stone island bench; the curve of the island and the radius of the pendant precisely matched. It truly is a beautiful and refreshing space – with modern lines and hints of subtle colours that add a refined and sophisticated feel here.
In the living room, a bold black feature wall draws us in. This wall seems to effortless ground the space and creates a focal point, while a more neutral scheme and natural materials help to keep the tone light.
The home also features a gorgeous office space to accommodate the owners’ needs. In a similar colour palette the office blends in with the tones of the rest of the home. There is therefore a seamless flow between each space.
Subtle tones of grey and white tie everything together in this home in true style. See more of this gorgeous interior here
