Amazing Spaces Turns 25: Launching Habitat to Create Cinematic Homes in South Africa
After a quarter-century shaping the way international film crews experience South Africa, Amazing Spaces is stepping into its most ambitious era yet. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the iconic film locations agency – long known for scouting the extraordinary – is evolving from showcasing exceptional homes to designing and developing them. Its new property development division, Habitat by Amazing Spaces, marks a natural, thrilling progression for a brand built on vision, storytelling, and a deep love for South Africa’s most remarkable spaces.
The division makes its debut with Sillery Oaks, a contemporary farmhouse set in Constantia’s storied landscape. It’s a home that captures that rare balance between cinematic drama and warm liveability, a blend of modern lines, tactile materials, and lush natural framing that feels both grounded and transportive.
For founder Julia Finnis-Bedford, the move into development is the culmination of decades immersed in world-class film sets and unforgettable locations. “We’ve seen the extraordinary – the kind of spaces that make stories come alive,” she says. “Habitat lets us translate that magic into real, liveable homes with presence and soul.”
Working with architect Jane Visser, the home takes cues from English countryside films and the surrounding Constantia Valley. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame ancient stinkwoods and fruit trees, while oversized pocket sliders dissolve the line between inside and out. In the kitchen, a sliding counter transforms everyday living into effortless entertaining.
Inside, materiality becomes narrative. Lalegno engineered oak floors offer stability and richness, textured timber screens cast shifting shadows, and moody spaces, like the all-black downstairs guest suite, heighten the drama of the landscape beyond. Bathrooms become set pieces of their own, wrapped in sustainable Cara Saven wallpaper and anchored by floating oak and matte-black fixtures.
Every detail is deliberately cinematic: a floating white cement shelf topped with a wood burner; a breathing green courtyard pulling daylight deep into the home; designed sightlines that feel almost storyboarded.
With the launch of Habitat and the planned acquisition of Blue Chip Properties, a respected Constantia Valley agency with more than two decades of local credibility, Amazing Spaces enters its most transformative chapter yet. From finding extraordinary locations, to selling them, to now creating them, the brand completes a full-circle evolution. It’s a milestone worthy of its 25-year legacy, and a bold beginning for what comes next.
