DDL Decadent Décor Resolutions

From visiting the gym and making some solid investments to visiting your parents more and finally sorting out your wardrobe – 2019 is in full swing and we hope you’re keeping all those resolutions!

But you’re not the only one looking to set resolutions. Décor specialists and designers are also looking for a refresh approach to their style, and we have some of the biggest trends that are hitting homes in 2019:

Much More Florals

Aaah, it’s our good old friend “botanicals” back for another undisputed year in the decor industry. Except now we’re moving away from leafy greens to something a little more traditional: florals. The traditional beauty of floral patterns, either abstracted or straight up chintz, will be the pattern to use this year. Expect to find exaggerated proportions and contrasting colours used for this timeless decor pattern, especially on wall paper, art and home accessories.

Much Less Accent Walls

Dramatic-coloured accent walls are no longer the focal point of interiors. Instead, try to elevate your space as a whole with subtle wallpaper designs. Whether it’s geometric, floral, metallic or fun textured wallpaper, it’s enough to add that pop you want, but with a better sense of cohesiveness that doesn’t overdo it.

Heterogeneous Decor

Call it the boho chic or mixed styling, the “this is me” trend is exploding in 2019 as people start to see their personal space as an extension of themselves. Layering and patterned fabrics, curved furnishings and softer lines with a mixing of modern and vintage; expect mixed metal vibes such as brass and copper, with real art and photographs replacing shop-bought wall coverings. If you like it, it’s in – as long as it’s presented well.

Grey Minimalist

Simple, monochromatic hygge have had a good run, but this year we’ll see less fifty shades of grey, and more dramatic textures and patterns. And if you’re not so keen on bold colours, then matte black décor is definitely the way to go – especially in the bathroom where it’s all about bold, dark, sultry designs that evoke an indulgent high-end experience.

Vivacious Velvet

Not all trends are being banished from the decadence list. Velvet made a big splash in 2018, and it will continue to do so. What was once seen as old and stuffy is now viewed as luxurious yet funky. Velvet is the “it” fabric of the moment. And with so many sumptuous colours and applications – think crushed velvet pillows or eye-catching upholstered walls – there are few places this alluring textile doesn’t feel right at home. Sumptuously seductive, velvet beds and velvet sofas are some of the most covetable ways to bring the look home in 2019.

Don’t forget to add details to the chairs – A personalised bauble tied or pinned to your chair frames from a length of ribbon will make every person at the table feel like the guest of honour. Plain baubles can be personalised with a metallic marker pen, then simply hung from the chair. For more drama go for a bauble cluster – thread 4 or five different sized baubles together and add in some foliage for a finishing touch.
