CF Architects: Explore an Eclectic-Chic Design
Explore the eclectic-chic design experiment on the edge of Melville, Johannesburg. This beautiful renovation draws its inspiration from the exposed nature and materials of this 1970s constructed home.
Taking architectural inspiration from the rich and vibrant history of Melville and the beauty of the exposed laminated trusses throughout the home, the house was designed to express the owners love of colour and art.
“The signature of this project is best captured in the commissioning of the centrally featured Helios mirror”. The Helios celebrates the warmth of the space, the light that breathes life into the room.
“We love a great design challenge”, says Curtis, explaining that the existing house was on a short stand. “We had to maximise the use of natural light at our disposal”, each bedroom has its own door for private access and shutters to manage the afternoon African sun.
With a love for entertaining, multiple open-plan entertaining areas were created. The ease of flow from inside to outside, is seamless. Each space having its own unique character but fitting into the greater eclectic theme – that is this home.
While renovating the existing portions of the home, an elegant way of bringing new energy into a space is by changing the colour of the space. This music room is a creative space that needed to be bright, inspiring, and energizing. The use of a Burnt Lemon uplifts this corner and is enhanced even further with the simple addition of hidden LED strip lighting. The ability to curate and display the pieces collected by the owners over the years was an absolute joy.
The master bedroom has been designed to be warm and cosseting. It is a tranquil space, that overlooks the beautiful back garden and pool area. Rich wooden floors reflect the original laminated timber roof trusses overhead. The result being a stylish room, complete with its own reading corner, ottomans, and interchangeable mini-art exhibition. This collection includes a mix of European, African, and contemporary art.
Every project is unique, challenging, and inspiring. Our desire is to leave each project feeling completely bespoke and true to the character of our clients.
