ARRCC: City View South Africa

When ARRCC was briefed to breathe present-day style into a residence with a strong architectural form, the team created a welcoming family home that speaks of the owner’s love for design. The existing house was completely gutted and remodelled which included the addition of a top floor that houses the master bedroom suite. The contemporary interior creates an inviting, child-friendly space with strong design accents.

Let’s step inside this beautiful city view home, in South Africa…

The dark exterior of the home belies the fact that inside a warm, welcoming family home awaits. Dark stained ceilings seamlessly integrate the exterior with the interior and create a striking contrast with the light oak flooring. Complementing the light flooring, the walls are minimally decorated and light in colour.

For the open plan living level, a neutral palette with accents of colour was chosen, with a charcoal linen sofa and grey B&B Italia Mart Chair underlining the modernist interior design. A blue toned patch work rug and Deborah Poynton art piece further dominates the space, the latter creating an interesting soft floral element in stark contrast with the dramatic city views seen from this room. The rough timber dining table provides a focal point and is surrounded by white Eames chairs, creating a casual dining space. Framed black and white architectural prints line the wall in an interesting installation that reflects the architectural work of the home owner.

Directly accessible from the living area is the kitchen. Custom designed by the owners, it combines stainless steel surfaces with grey Duco panels and luxurious white marble with modern metal barstools complementing the stainless steel counter. Glass pocket doors open up to a covered terrace designed for outdoor entertaining. Adjacent to the kitchen and living area is the children’s den, featuring an installation of their school craft and art on the wall which adds a playful and original element to the home.

The new top level comprises the master bedroom suite and study. The glass pocket doors open fully to reveal uninterrupted views of the city. A stylish upholstered bed with luxurious linen and a mohair rug combines to create a sense of serenity while the walls are lined with the client’s own artwork to bring character and personality into the space. Custom joinery ensures practical and sufficient storage space. Moving through to the study, a large timber table, ideal for family gatherings, occupies the space, with the owner’s personal library displayed on the wall shelves.

The children’s bedrooms are located on the lower floor of the house, opening up to the pool and garden. Each room offers unique features to reflect a space that is lively and fun whilst still echoing the same design aesthetic present throughout the rest of the house.

ARRCC has also recently been selected for the Andrew Martin Interior Designer of the
Year Award. Attracting global entries, they are thrilled to be nominated and will be featured in the 22nd Volume of Andrew Martin Design Review, honouring the world’s Top 100 Interior Designers for the year.

The highly anticipated publication has been dubbed “The Oscars of the Interior Design world” by The Sunday Times. Each year the very best work from global designers is honoured with publication. The Review has become a cultural catalogue of design.
