Saint-Gobain Unveils Cutting-Edge Ekurhuleni Plant, Reinforcing Local Manufacturing and Design Innovation
Saint-Gobain Launches Ekurhuleni Plant: A New Chapter for Local Manufacturing and Design Materials
Saint-Gobain Africa has officially opened a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Ekurhuleni, marking a significant investment of over R500 million in South Africa’s industrial and construction landscape. The inauguration brought together government representatives, industry partners, and community stakeholders, signaling strong confidence in the country’s economic and industrial potential.
The facility will produce fibre cement, a durable composite building material valued for its strength, fire resistance, and moisture resistance—qualities that make it an essential choice for modern architecture and resilient building design. The investment is set to create numerous direct and indirect jobs, while supporting local supplier development and skills transfer, reinforcing Saint-Gobain’s commitment to sustainable industrial growth.
“This investment is not simply about expanding capacity; it is a clear demonstration of our long-term belief in South Africa as a key industrial hub for the continent,” said Aymeric d’Ydewalle, CEO of Saint-Gobain Africa. “We continue to invest because we believe deeply in South Africa’s talent, its manufacturing capability, and the importance of strong partnerships between the public and private sectors in driving sustainable growth.”
The new plant embodies Saint-Gobain Africa’s Make it in Africa to Build Africa (MABA) initiative, which emphasizes local production, skills development, and community empowerment. Designed to support job creation and strengthen regional value chains, the facility reinforces the company’s long-term presence and commitment to building resilient industries in South Africa.
By bringing advanced manufacturing capabilities to Ekurhuleni, Saint-Gobain is not only expanding production capacity but also providing architects, designers, and builders with high-quality local materials. The plant stands as a testament to the company’s global purpose, Making the World a Better Home, connecting innovation, industrial development, and social progress in the heart of South Africa’s manufacturing sector.
