ELIE SAAB Casablanca: A New Art of Living on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard
Along Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard, a new residential language is emerging, one defined by architectural clarity, quiet confidence, and the art of living well. In ELIE SAAB Casablanca – Art of Living, ELIE SAAB and SAOTA come together in a landmark collaboration that translates couture sensibility into considered, contemporary architecture.
Conceived as a collection of distinct villas rather than a uniform development, the project positions each home as a curated sanctuary. The partnership pairs SAOTA’s context-driven architectural intelligence with ELIE SAAB’s unmistakable elegance, resulting in residences that feel expansive yet intimate, composed yet deeply personal.
A recalibrated terrain strategy ensures that every villa, whether front-facing or set further inland, is carefully oriented to capture Atlantic views and generous natural light. Spatial planning extends this intent, drawing living areas outward into gardens and terraces, softening the threshold between interior and exterior. At the centre of each home, a vertical atrium runs from top floor to basement, pulling daylight deep into the interior and reducing reliance on artificial illumination. Light, here, is not an accessory but an architectural constant.
The ground level takes cues from the riad tradition, where substantial exterior walls enclose a private, inward-looking world. Landscaped extensively and reserved entirely for pedestrians, the estate prioritises tranquillity and connection to nature. Vehicle circulation is discreetly accommodated underground, allowing the surface to remain serene and uninterrupted.
Materiality carries the collaboration’s couture narrative. Fluted concrete panels introduce rhythm and precision, while pigmented plaster and stone add texture and depth. Interiors are shaped by two distinct palettes: an Autumn/Winter collection inspired by Moroccan pink plaster, and a Spring/Summer counterpart defined by lighter, more luminous tones. No two villas are identical; each is calibrated to its specific setting, microclimate, and views.
Anchoring the development is a sculptural clubhouse – less an amenity than a communal retreat – echoing the villas’ architectural language and offering a pause from urban pace.
As SAOTA Principal Roxanne Kaye notes, the vision was always to create homes that feel both expansive and deeply personal. The result is a residential environment where architecture, craftsmanship, and lifestyle align, offering Cape Town a new expression of refined, contemporary living
