A Bold Bachelor’s Pad By Figleaf’s Marilize Anderssen
This striking Gardens’ bachelor pad renovation ticks all the right boxes with the perfect use of space coupled with a contemporary chic look that makes for an ultra stylish end result.
Marilize Anderssen from Figleaf was brought onboard to bring the interior of this home together. She pulled out all the stops, working in conjunction with the owner, to give this space its edgy yet functional aesthetic.
This was no simple renovation as the owner and designers worked hard to create a fully functional abode, maximising all of the available space and of course, adding a contemporary chic ambience to this space.
At only 36 square metres in size, this Gardens’ reno was no easy feat. Every area had to be well considered to offer the best utilisation of space. As such, in conjunction with a structural engineer, the home took on a whole new identity with the interior walls completely restructured to include a trendy little lounge area.
The overall feel is fresh and contemporary and designers have not shied away from the use of vibrant colour to set the tone in this space. The emerald green shade used is perfectly on trend, offering a calming ambiance to this space.
In the bedroom, a massive mirrored sliding door also doubles as the bathroom door. The mirror creates a feeling of depth and space. Below the custom-built bed, a full-length drawer slides out into the living room and next to it, a cavity creates some much-needed storage space. Above the bed, oak trusses create texture, warmth and flow from the kitchen area.
A world map printed on wallpaper adorns a wall, a nod to the owner’s love of travel. And exposed I-beams and black spider lights – custom made for this project – bring in some industrial chic. A classic black-and-white chequered tile floor in the bathroom is juxtaposed with raw finishes on the walls in neutrals Grey Typhoon and White Chalk.
The renovation epitomises the optimal use of a small dwelling through design thinking, careful planning and collaboration, while keeping true to the character of the homeowner.
