Uniq Lights & Home: A Breakdown of Design Styles

When it comes to designing your home, there are a million different styles and trends to consider. Today we want to highlight some of the popular styles with a breakdown of how to achieve the look in your home.

Country

A rustic elegance is characteristic of this look. Some country looks are marked by extensive use of white wood paneling and soft floral patterns, muted hues and pops of red, black or pure white accents. Primitive furnishings have a history to them and are bought in antique shops and flea markets.

English Country

A feminine look, with lush rose patterns, extensive uses of greens, reds, pinks and blues are characteristic of an English Country home. Ornamental, fine carved wood furniture, overstuffed sofas with tufting and skirted furniture mix with antiques and lots of small decorative accessories.

French

An ornate, fanciful and decorative style is characteristic of this look. Colors range from rich, sun-drenched Mediterranean hues to softer, muted shades. Often, one color or fabric is repeated throughout the space. It’s characterized by rich details and extensive use of gold, bronze and gilt. Antique or heirloom furniture, layered dramatic window treatments and abundant fresh flowers fill out a French home.

Mid Century

Few decades have produced as many icons as the 1950s and ’60s. It’s no wonder that midcentury style is still so insanely popular today. It’s here where high-quality natural materials like wood and leather meet lush, organic shapes. Also typical of ’60s chic are opulent, textured fabrics such as velvet, corduroy, and bouclé in fir green, bold navy, and purple. Combining midcentury with shiny brass or chrome accents will therefore round out the glamorous and cosy style.

Modern Bauhaus

For a modern Bauhaus style, don’t feel restricted to a neutral colour palette of just black, white, and grey. Instead you may want to consider incorporating primary colours too. Even patterns are allowed when decorating, if they are composed of simple, geometric shapes. For Bauhaus followers, form always follows function. So, unnecessary flourishes should thus be avoided. A great advantage of this straightforward, simple design is its timeless appeal. Even after a century, it can still look fresh and daring.
