Which wine needs which glass? What about beer, cocktails and more? Did you know that there is a perfect glass for every drink? Today we are sharing everything you need to know about using the right glass and you can shop the latest glassware collections from Edgars.
Over the years, different glasses have been designed to improve the quality and experience of specific drinks. The design of the glass can help you keep a drink cool, or warm it up as needed. The curve of the edge could help you sip your drink more efficiently. But how do you know which glass to use when?
Here are some tips:
Red or White?
Red wine and white wine glasses differ. Red wine glasses often have a bigger, rounder bowl in order to swirl the wine, helping it to aerate or breathe before you drink it. A long stem will also keep the hand away from the drink in order to prevent it becoming too warm.
White wine glasses, on the other hand have a smaller mouth area, and therefore a smaller surface area to aerate, so that wine does not oxidize too fast. This often helps to retain the lighter, more delicate notes that white wines will generally have.
When it comes to sparkling wine, fluted glasses are the preferred medium. Sparkling wine needs even less surface area, as this will help preserve the bubbles and stop it from going flat too quickly. Hence, the flute glass, with its tall, thin bowl and small mouth. Also used for Champagne and sparkling cocktails.
Craft Beer
The craft beer industry has taken off in a big way. As such, the perfect craft beer glass is an essential in your home or bar area. These often focus on craft beer enjoyment with custom-shaped glasses that successfully deliver the complexity of aromas on the nose while demonstrating the optimum beer texture, balance and flavour intensity on the palate.
The Whiskey Glass
The whiskey tumbler (aka the rocks glass, the old fashioned glass, the lowball). The perfect whiskey glass boasts a wide rim, as the tumbler isn’t ideal for nosing, but it doesn’t need to be – this one’s for filling with ice and a whiskey of your choosing, or for serving up any number of classic cocktails.
The Hi Ball Glass
If you’re into cocktails, then you’ve probably been served one in hi ball glass or glass tumbler. These are typically used to serve ‘tall’ cocktails and other mixed drinks that contain a large proportion of a non-alcoholic mixer, and are poured over ice.
So, next time you’re planning a special dinner event, be sure to offer your guests the perfect glass for the perfect drink.
