Mervyn Gers x PAUL: A Limited-Edition Ceramic Collaboration
Lorette du Toit, legacy custodian of the late South African artist Paul du Toit, has announced the release of a limited-edition handmade ceramic platter in collaboration with renowned ceramicist Mervyn Gers.
This exclusive piece features a replica of the artwork Paul du Toit originally painted on a Magis tray in 2005. The original ‘Captain Love-Tray’ was designed by Jerszey Seymour for the Italian design brand MAGIS. Paul hand-painted three trays, one of which is part of the private collection of the Perazza family, owners of MAGIS, near Venice.
Now, two decades later, this iconic image is reimagined on a 40cm ceramic platter crafted by Mervyn Gers Ceramics. The edition is strictly limited to 300 hand-numbered pieces, priced at R6,500 each, and will be available from the end of October 2025.
Paul du Toit (1965–2014) was an award-winning artist known for his vibrant use of colour and dynamic style. His work spanned various mediums, from bold oil and acrylic paintings to sculptural works in bronze, concrete, and even canvas. His art received widespread international recognition throughout his career.
