Heading Reflective Tension: Paul Cocksedge’s Morphed Mirror Bends the Rules of Design
When Paul Cocksedge turns his hand to the everyday, the result is never ordinary. The internationally acclaimed designer and artist has collaborated with Italian brand Magis to create the Morphed Mirror, a collection that defies convention and reimagines reflection as an expressive, living form. Be inspired with Inova Contracts.
Far from a functional surface, Morphed Mirror is, as Cocksedge describes it, “an exploration of the power of compression.” At first glance, each mirror appears to have been caught mid-gesture: soft volumes pressed, shaped, and frozen into planes of glass that retain a sense of movement. It is this tension – between fluidity and stillness, softness and rigidity – that gives the collection its emotional charge.
The mirrors are fragments of stories, crystallised in time. Some curves suggest the intimacy of an embrace, others ripple like a wave, while certain forms seem to echo the tender weight of a child held in protective arms. It is design stripped of ornament, yet imbued with narrative, every compression an imprint of human connection.
The collection comprises three sculptural mirrors (89.2 x 104 cm) set within bold black metal frames, alongside two models with shelves pressed into their sides. Versatile in placement – vertical or horizontal – they invite dialogue with their surroundings, blending utility and poetry.
For South African collectors, Morphed Mirror is available exclusively through Inova Contracts, a leading source of design-led furniture. Alongside iconic brands such as Pedrali, Hay, and Knoll, Inova continues to bring discerning buyers access to pieces that are as functional as they are transformative.
