PUT YOUR FEET UP THIS WOMEN’S MONTH
Are you a victim of Rushing Woman’s Syndrome? That’s what a new book by nutritional biochemist Dr Libby Weaver calls the modern malaise of always being ‘busy, busy, busy’. With our mobile phones that never stop, and internet access everywhere we go, ‘down time’ is concept that we rarely get to enjoy these days. Add that to family commitments, the day to day running of our homes, grocery shopping, you name it – the list never stops. That’s why we’re all about pulling up a good chair and putting your feet up this month. It’s hard to find time for yourself, but not impossible. Here are 4 quick ways to try and make it easier for you:
- Book at least one evening a week for yourself. Use the time for gardening, reading on your favourite chair, exercising, thinking, or the ultimate luxury of doing nothing!
- Schedule a treat for yourself once a month. Enjoy a spa treatment, movie, haircut or game of tennis. Whatever bit of ‘me time’ you’re always thinking about but never get to. Put it in your diary and make it happen!
- The 5 minute rule. Spend just five minutes a day doing something you really enjoy. Pull up your favourite chair and listen to music, read a book or just zen out. Whatever works for you! Gradually extend this to 10, then 15 minutes and so on. Before you know it, you’ll feel more relaxed and equipped to deal with the rest of your week.
- Breathe deeply. Sit on a comfy ottoman and start your morning by taking 10 deep breaths. Breathing deeply brings oxygen to your brain which clarifies your thoughts and calms your mind helping you to face your day more efficiently and with more perspective.
Whatever your needs, having a beautiful space to put your feet up in when you need it most, makes those moments of relaxation all the more sweet. Create the perfect peaceful spot in your home and incorporate a beautiful occasion chair or ottoman where you can enjoy some vital downtime to yourself.
