3 ways to spruce up your hallways
In older traditional homes, long passages and hallways often lead away from the living areas towards bedrooms which are usually tucked away near the back of the home. Such passages may simply be transitional areas, but you can make the most of these spaces by incorporating a few of our designer tips to maximise these interesting places.
The walls
Long passages, and especially those with wide walls, make for excellent gallery walls. Choose to display some of your family photographs, artworks, personal collections or memorabilia, framed directly on the wall. Alternatively, you could mount a long floating shelf on which to display your most prized possessions in this interesting space. The ceiling
Elongated passage ceilings often make for very spectacular ‘fifth wall’ features in a home. You could decide to paint the ceiling in a distinct tone or even more daring, try wallpapering the ceiling in an interesting design, such as a detailed print or textured pattern. Another option is to completely clad the passage ceiling in a wooden finish, to add depth and warmth to the space. The floors
Passage floors can easily draw the eye downward along the straight line and flow of the walkway. As such, you may want to invest in quality flooring to enhance the overlook look of the space. Whether wood, tiles, concrete or carpet finishes, opt for something that will make a statement and won’t detract from the overall style of your abode. A passage rug may also help to add warmth to the area and may be a functional add to help keep the underlying floor cleaner for longer.
