Cosy isn’t a style but a feeling: How to create a warm and cosy space indoors
You don’t have to invest in a major renovation to transform your space into a comfortable hideaway from the cold. It’s as easy as comfortable seating options that are decorated with warm colours, layered with textures like fluffy pillows and soft throws, warm lighting with candles or a fireplace. There is no single recipe for what makes a space feel cosy, it is all entirely up to you and your taste.
Here are a few ideas to help you get started:
Layered style
This is a simple and easy way to change up any room within the home. All you would need is comfortable furniture, a mix of neutrals and pastel accents, and layered textiles that create a cosy and relaxing gathering space. A great example of achieving this look, is the living room NancyDesign did for the Zwingli Farmhouse.

Dark and Warm Aesthetics
This is a perfect solution for those who enjoy the darker aesthetics. Dark teal walls (or an accent/statement wall), a comfy cognac leather couch, vintage accents, and candles, loads of candles – who doesn’t love the smell of a freshly lit candle? At NancyDesign we offer a black Modern classic candle in small at R195 and in large at R480 – and guess what? they’re vanilla scented! The perfect winter scent!
Keep the light
With fewer daylight hours in winter, it’s important to ensure every cosy home is well lit. Low light from table lamps are a great addition, use warm LED light bulbs to add additional warmth and comfort to your room, the more “yellow” the light, the cosier you will feel as this mimics candlelight.
Use home fragrance
Adding a new home fragrance is a simple way to introduce the new season into your home. Go for rich and warm scents, to match the cold chilly weather outdoors. At NancyDesign we offer a wide variety of diffuser fragrances, catered for every season and occasion. We have our Diffuser candle sets in 5 scents at R268.60 – Mango/Mandarin, HoneyDew/Melon, Rose/Litchi, Ocean Breeze and Mimosa/Cardamom.
