Clinton Friedman: multi-talented creative
A dreamer and a maker, multi-talented creative Clinton Friedman is well-known for his exceptional art and designs, from handmade rugs and textiles to furniture and wallpaper.
Fusing ancient skills with modern sensibilities, Friedman’s work explores colour and light, form and texture, the ‘push-pull’ relationship between abstraction and realism, and merges traditional techniques with technology.
Showcasing and interacting with forms of life in nature, his new works are no different, transcending artifice in favour of uncompromising simplicity, and escaping trends in favour of timelessness.
“I have a deep-rooted connection to the African wireframe—its cross-cultural perspectives, its imperfections, and its boundless natural allure,” says Friedman. “This is my indispensable influence. I am an explorer of its natural world. Its simplicity. Its complexity. Its space and shapes, colours and moods.”
Perfectly capturing the designer’s ethos, several of his most striking new designs include:
Drawing on tribal and biophilic influences, this one-of-a-kind hand-carved sculpture, this piece serves as a striking focal point in any room.
Quintessential Friedman, the designer returned to his botanical art roots for this pretty design with water-repellent Drimac fabric and wooden handle.
Hand-carved from a single piece of sustainably sourced hardwood and polished smooth, this little side table packs a mighty design punch.
Also hand-carved from a single piece of sustainably sourced hardwood with a textured, semi-gloss finish, the organic shape of this design makes it an easy addition to most decor schemes.
Made to order, the plush hand-tufted rug is made from 100% wool and is limited to only 10 editions.
